Top 5 Free Online RPG Games

There are many free online RPG games available now, and even big MMORPGs are now offering free access during their alpha and beta development phases. Not only do you get play for free, but you can be involved in the building phase of a whole new world. Free online RPGs also give players access to games which are different enough that they might not get very wide commercial release without this kind of exposure.

Free Online RPG Games we recommend:

#1. Knight Online US - http://www.knightonlineworld.com

Knight Online kicked off in Korea in 2002, and has now expanded its servers through Asia and into the US. It's a medieval fantasy world with two nations, human and orc. The game is rich with special events and large-scale wars, rather than the more normal hack and slash. There are plenty of job and character paths to choose from, and success in battle can bring riches and titles.

#2. Priston Tale Online - http://eng.pristontale.com

The world of Priston Online is also divided between two races, the Morion and Tempskron. Which race you choose will pretty much decide your career path, though: the Morion are more concentrated on magic, whereas the Tempskron depend more on technology and physical strength. Like most games, you fight your way through progressively more difficult monsters, becoming more skilled as you do so. Quests begin once a character gains level 20. Graphically, the game is fairly impressive, with full 3D, day and night cycles, and weather effects.

The next two games we recommend are both games that originated in Asia, and it shows. Not in an awful Japlish sort of way, but because they both draw on traditional religious and cultural background to create worlds that Westerners will find exotic and dramatically different.

#3. Tantra - http://www.tantra.ph

Tantra comes from the Philippeans, and uses a Hindu background to frame a world where mortals battle on behalf of their gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The graphics are beautiful, and while the character classes and abilities will be easily understood by any RPG player, they're still just different enough.

#4. KAL Online - http://www.kalonline.com

KAL Online is Korean, and based on a traditional oriental myth about a great battle between the great king Ha-Nin, and a Demon Lord. You can fight on either side. Both games provide website and support in adequate English.

#5. Deloria - http://deloria.nexemis.com

Deloria differs in that it's a 2-D MMORPG. The graphic quality evokes old adventure games like Paganitzu. It's very much archetypal good against evil in realm infested with monsters, and players can be either warriors or magic-users, under the guidance of the god Nexemis.

All these free online RPG games require a pretty large download, and most will require regular updates as well. Some can be played effectively over a 56k connection, though the more graphically demanding will be more rewarding using a cable connection. All provide support websites for players to share news, screen shots, and information over, and to keep players up to date with technical issues. So you can poke around the websites to decide whether a game looks interesting before you download it, and even then, you can leave any time, with no financial commitment: you don't have to keep playing these free online RPG games after it becomes a grind just to feel that you've got your money's worth.

A role playing game (RPG) is a type of game where players assume the role of a character in a fictional world. Characters gain various abilities based on game play and typically involving the use of several statistics such as strength and intelligence. The term is used for two distinct types of game. One is typically a pen-and-paper game played with dice by several people. The term is now more commonly used to describe a genre of video games featuring similar game play concepts.Free Online RPG Games, Free RPG games, Free online RPG
